Mastering for streaming

We take your finished mix to release level — controlled loudness for Spotify and similar platforms, coherent sequencing on EPs and albums, and exports you can actually upload.

Mastering engineer turns rack knob wearing headphones.

Mastering is the last step before release: it smooths transitions between songs, sets perceived loudness where platforms and your genre expect it, and catches technical issues missed in the mix. Mumbocetra in Vienna Neubau masters stereo mixdowns — not individual stems unless we explicitly agree otherwise.

You supply a mix with headroom; we deliver master WAV and optional extra formats. The service complements our stem mixes or external mixes alike. If you are unsure the mix is ready, send a snippet via contact before booking.

How it works

  1. Check the mix

You upload WAV, target loudness and references. We flag obvious technical problems before mastering starts.

  2. First master

EQ, dynamics, limiting and sequence check on multi-track projects. “Master v1” for download.

  3. Refinement

Up to 2 adjustment rounds — for example less sibilance or different fade length between tracks.

  4. Export

Final 24-bit WAV; optional MP3 or FLAC. ISRC placeholders for albums are discussed in the brief — we do not provide legal advice.

What mastering at Mumbocetra does

Mastering here means optimising the existing stereo mix, not remixing it. We work on precise monitors with headphone cross-checks in the control room at Neubaugasse 40. Typical moves: gentle tonal balance, multiband-style dynamics only where needed, de-essing on the sum, limiting for target loudness and pauses/fades between tracks on EPs and albums.

We do not master illegally uncleared samples and we cannot fix fundamentally wrong mix choices — in those cases we suggest returning to mixing or recording.

Streaming loudness and platforms

Streaming services normalise playback — extreme loudness often costs dynamics. We aim at common integrated LUFS targets suited to genre and your references, without a loudness race. State in the brief whether Spotify, Apple Music, Bandcamp or download stores matter most.

True peak and clipping protection are standard so transcodes create fewer artefacts. Exact numbers depend on material; we can note measurements in the delivery email on request.

Delivery formats and naming

Default is 24-bit master WAV at the mix sample rate (44.1 or 48 kHz) or upsampling only when agreed. MP3 promos or FLAC for shops can be added when quoted.

Filenames follow a clear pattern (Artist_Title_Master.wav). On albums we deliver numbered tracks; DDP only when explicitly quoted — standard delivery is file-based download links.

EP and album sequencing

Multiple songs are mastered so no track feels obviously quieter than its neighbour unless you want artistic contrast. Gap length between tracks is agreed with you — from fractions of a second to longer breaths.

Album package €750 covers up to twelve tracks; EP €395 up to six. Extra or bonus tracks bill at €99 each or a revised package quote.

Preparing your mix

Ideal: mix without a heavy master-bus limiter or with moderate ceiling, peak not glued to 0 dBFS. Headroom around −3 to −6 dBFS helps us work cleanly. Send the same mix you intend to release — not parallel “ louder” versions unless clearly labelled.

Stems are not enough for standard mastering; ask upfront for stem mastering if you need it. After a stem mix with us you can book mastering in the same thread — faster context, separate invoice lines.

FAQ

Do I need a mix from your studio first?

No — any clean stereo mix is welcome. Many clients come after external mixes or our stem mix.

How loud will my track be?

We align loudness with references and target platforms — not a generic “as loud as possible” default. Share LUFS targets if you have them.

Mix and master on the same day?

Usually unrealistic — mixes need listening time. Plan sequentially; we coordinate via contact.

What if the mix has errors?

We report clips, dropouts or bad endings before mastering. Fixing the mix is your or our mixing job, not included in the master fee.

Do you offer vinyl mastering?

Standard is digital streaming/download. Dedicated vinyl pre-master is a custom quote — not in the table price.

Where are payment and cancellation rules?

In our terms and quote: 30% deposit, 4-day cancellation where applicable, B2B payment 14 days when agreed.
