Band in the live room

Play as a unit — we capture the shared groove in our Neubau live room with isolated tracks ready for mixing.

Band setup in live room with engineer at snare.

Band in the live room at Mumbocetra suits rock, pop, jazz and indie groups who want the feel of a real room rather than stacking overdubs at home. In roughly 44 m², drums, bass amps, guitar cabs and keys sit up at once while the engineer places mics and amp positions to keep bleed manageable.

Our studio on Neubaugasse 40 has 20 microphones and 32 inputs on the desk — enough for several amps, overheads and room mics. After the session you receive multitrack files for Stem mixing or your own workflow; see the band schedule guide for timing tips.

How it works

  1. Brief us

Send lineup, song list and preferred dates via contact or [email protected]. Within 2 business days you get a written quote with slot, price and a 30 % deposit to hold the date.

  2. Setup

On the day we build the drum riser, amps and DI boxes, tune and set monitoring. Allow about an hour for soundcheck before you count takes — no rush on the first pass.

  3. Tracking

You run through songs while the engineer watches levels, phase and take quality. Short listens in the control room between passes; breaks whenever you need them.

  4. Handoff

We export named tracks (typically 24-bit WAV). Download link or your drive; we keep project backups for 24 months per our terms.

Lineups we see often

Most bookings are four- or five-piece bands: drums, electric bass, one or two guitars, keys optional. Smaller acoustic setups with cajon and upright bass can work if the arrangement fits the room. Larger horn sections need extra planning — sometimes iso booth time for brass.

Solo artists with hired players are fine when everyone knows the charts. A half day may cover a tight demo; EP days usually call for a full day or two half days. The services overview links to Vocals & singing when you add vocals later.

Room and routing

The live room is the largest of 3 spaces at Mumbocetra (recording in Vienna Neubau since 2019). Marked floor positions, dedicated power for amps and sightlines to the control room keep communication simple. Tobias Grünwald and Maria Kostner rotate on sessions depending on the calendar — both handle common rock and jazz routing.

We cover baseline miking for kick, snare, toms, overheads, bass DI plus amp, guitar cabs and keys. Bring a favourite vocal mic if you like; we patch it when specs allow. The desk accepts up to 32 sources; dense arrangements get a track plan before you arrive.

How a booking day runs

Hours: Tuesday–Friday 9:00–20:00, Saturday 10:00–16:00. Closed Sunday and Monday.. Guests 16 or older; minors need a guardian who books and pays. Directions: Take U-Bahn line U3 to Neubaugasse; from there it is about a 4-minute walk along Neubaugasse. Tram lines 49 and 13 also stop at Neubaugasse or Siebensterngasse, each a short walk away. From Wien Westbahnhof, U3 is one stop towards Simmering.. Arrive ten minutes early to drop gear in the lounge — we start the clock on setup at the booked time.

A four-hour half day fits two or three well-rehearsed songs plus setup. An eight-hour day allows more takes, quick iso booth overdubs or a long soundcheck. Extra time only by agreement; hourly rates are listed below.

What to prepare

Instruments stage-ready: fresh snare wires, tuned guitars, working cables. Note tempo, key and structure for each song — even a numbered list helps. Reference tracks (links in your email) tell us how loud amps and drums should feel.

Drummers may bring own snare or cymbals; our kit is available by default. Guitarists: list amp model and cab size for power planning. Laptop clicks get tested in setup — the schedule guide suggests realistic take counts per block.

Delivery formats

Default delivery is aligned multitrack WAV (24-bit, 48 kHz) with instrument names. Optional stereo reference mix for band feedback — not a release master. DAW project files on request when quoted.

Transfer via secure link to [email protected] or your SSD on site. We archive raw sessions for 24 months, then delete unless you agreed otherwise. Keep your own backups.

Rates and add-ons

Booked time covers room, engineer, baseline mics and export as described. Prices include 20 % VAT; net figures for businesses on request (example hourly net: €95.83).

Not included

You supply instruments (except our standard drum kit), amps and pedals. Rehearsal and arrangement are on you — we record, we do not teach the chart from scratch. PRO registrations and musician agreements stay with the client.

Unlimited editing, software drum replacement or full vocal production are outside the live-room hourly rate. Cancellation: free more than 4 calendar days ahead — see terms. More questions: FAQ or 01 966 12 34.

After tracking

Many bands move straight to stem mixing with us or at home using our exports. We can note problematic takes in a short log. Vocals that did not fit on band day get a dedicated Vocals & singing slot.

FAQ

How loud can we play?

Moderate levels and treatment handle rock drums without upsetting neighbours. Very heavy amp tones get aimed toward the control-room wall; extreme metal setups — ask us honestly in the quote if the room matches your goal.

Can we bring our own drum kit?

Yes. Using the house kit saves setup minutes. Own snare or cymbals are common — tell us so stands and cables are ready.

How many songs fit a half day?

Often two or three when arrangement is tight and changeovers are small. Tempo drift eats time — use the guide to plan.

Mix on the same day?

Usually a bad idea after eight hours of tracking. Book Stem mixing separately; it includes 2 revision rounds.

Musician cancels last minute?

Same rules as terms: free cancel more than 4 days out. We may repurpose the slot for overdubs or vocals — email [email protected].
