Vocals & singing sessions

Record lead and backing vocals in our iso booth on Neubaugasse with an engineer on hand — headphone mixes tailored to your voice and no rush between takes.

Vocals shape how a track is heard. A clean, intentional performance is easier to mix later than a loud but unfocused take. That is why every session at Mumbocetra starts with setup, reference listening and microphone choice before serious recording begins.

You can arrive with a finished instrumental, a project export from your home setup, or just lyrics and a backing track — we adapt the workflow. The service suits solo artists, rappers, bands adding overdubs and anyone in Wien who wants a calm, professional vocal environment. Preparation tips are in our guide preparing for a vocal session.

How it works

  1. Enquiry & slot

Tell us style, planned passes and references. We usually reply within 2 business days with a slot and a written quote under our terms and conditions.

  2. Booth setup

Microphone comparison, pop filter, headphone mix and levels — typically fifteen to twenty-five minutes so you feel settled in the booth.

  3. Recording & comping

Full takes, then targeted sections. We mark strong lines and build a comp from the best parts when you want that within the booked time.

  4. Export & archive

WAV tracks from song start, clearly named. Download link or your drive; we keep a session backup for 24 months, then delete it.

Iso booth and gear in Neubau

Mumbocetra has run a recording studio in Vienna Neubau since 2019, with 3 rooms and 1 iso booth for vocals. The booth is dry enough for detail without feeling lifeless. A window into the control room keeps eye contact with the engineer — useful for timing and feedback.

We maintain around 20 microphones; for vocals we usually compare large-diaphragm condenser, dynamic or occasionally ribbon options for very bright voices. Recording is 24-bit; default sample rate is 48 kHz and we match your project rate when agreed in advance.

Who this session is for

Common projects: a single with several vocal layers, rap verses with ad-libs, jazz vocal over playback, chorus overdubs after a live-room day, spoken-word lines or demo vocals for pitching. You do not need to be a studio regular — we explain each step in plain language.

We record people from age 16 only with written consent from a legal guardian; until 18 we recommend an adult on site. If you are hoarse or ill, we prefer to reschedule rather than force poor takes — see FAQ on rebooking.

How a typical vocal day runs

When you arrive at Neubaugasse 40, 1070 Wien, we confirm the goal: lead only, or doubles, harmonies and ad-libs as well. We load your instrumental or session, set markers and check tempo and key. Recording starts once the headphone mix feels right.

Breaks are yours to take. The engineer logs take numbers and short notes (for example “chorus take 3 — timing solid”). At the end you decide whether comping and light breath edits happen in the session or you take raw tracks and edit elsewhere.

What to bring

Ideally send ahead or bring on the day:

  • Instrumental as WAV or exported stems without a guide vocal
  • Lyrics marked by section
  • Tempo (BPM) and key if known
  • Two or three reference tracks whose vocal tone you like

Your own headphones are fine if you are used to them. Deeper advice on warm-up and file formats is in our vocal preparation guide. Questions: 01 966 12 34 or contact.

Monitoring, feedback and direction

Your headphone mix is individual: more or less backing, a touch of reverb, click — whatever helps you stay in tune. The engineer can comment on articulation, phrasing and energy if you want that; if you prefer to work undisturbed, say so at the start.

For backing vocals we track so a later stem mix stays tidy: separate passes for doubles, harmonies and ad-libs with consistent names. Mumbocetra GmbH can mix, or your external team can import without guesswork.

Delivery, formats and post work

Standard delivery is 24-bit WAV, time-aligned from the start of the song. We can also hand over the full session file (DAW-dependent) or a quick monitor mix. Pitch correction or heavy tuning effects are not included by default — ask if you want them quoted separately or handle them in your own project.

Mixing and mastering are separate services with their own rates (for example €195 per track for a mix). The vocal session ends with exported tracks; a release-ready master requires its own booking.

FAQ

How long do I need for one song?

For a three- to four-minute track with lead, choruses and a few doubles, plan two to four hours. The half-day rate €335 fits many singles; several songs or rich harmonies may suit the full day €610.

Can someone come with me?

One or two guests in the control room are usually fine. Larger groups often distract — mention it when booking. Extra backing singers in the booth need additional time in the schedule.

Do you mix the vocals in the same visit?

Stem mixing is a separate service from €195 per track. You can mix elsewhere; we deliver cleanly named files for that.

What if I am ill on the day?

Call 01 966 12 34 as early as you can. Within the terms window (4 days) we move the date at no extra cost; after that the deposit may apply — your quote states the details.

Where do I see all services?

Services lists Vocals & singing alongside mastering and more. For dates use contact — we confirm in writing.
