Podcast rights and guest release: clarify before you record

Up to 4 people can sit in Mumbocetra’s talk room in Wien on separate tracks — legally you still need clear permissions before publishing. This guide covers consent, copyright and data protection for hosts in Austria; it is not legal advice.

What the podcast session delivers

Podcast & talk gives you a quiet room, isolated tracks and optional basic editing. Rates: €88 per hour, two-hour session €255, six-hour day package €520 — incl. VAT. Book via contact during Tue–Fri 9–20, Sat 10–16.

We are a recording provider, not your publisher: publishing, fine edit and music licences stay with you unless ordered separately. Raw material is kept 24 months under our terms, then deleted unless extended.

Why a written guest release matters

Guests have personality rights and co-created the spoken content — publishing without consent can create liability. A short release should name the person, role, show title, allowed platforms (RSS, YouTube, Spotify, social clips) and duration. Optionally: may photos from the room be used?

Sessions are not offered under age 16; for 16–17 year-olds you need guardian consent. Corporate guests often sign as representatives — check internal social media rules.

Store signed PDFs separately from audio. Remote guests: scan before start or qualified e-signature — verbal «fine by me» is weak in disputes.

Music, jingles and samples

Use library music with documented licence or your own composition — not «some beat from the internet». Music played aloud in the room that bleeds into mics needs broadcast rights. Cleaner: add music only in post under a licensed track.

News clips or third-party podcast excerpts: quotation alone is often insufficient — keep excerpts short and contextual, but permission from the rights holder is safer. When unsure, cut the segment or re-record.

GDPR for hosts

You are usually controller for guest data; Mumbocetra GmbH processes recordings as processor under our privacy policy and optional DPA. Tell guests on site the purpose (podcast), retention and rights to access and erasure.

Avoid collecting health, salary or intimate details on forms — if topics arise, edit before publish or obtain explicit consent. Website cookies are separate — visitors can change choices via (stored 182 days, key mmbc_consent_v1).

Recording day flow in Neubau

Allow ten minutes before start for signatures and photo consent. Take U-Bahn line U3 to Neubaugasse; from there it is about a 4-minute walk along Neubaugasse. Tram lines 49 and 13 also stop at Neubaugasse or Siebensterngasse, each a short walk away. From Wien Westbahnhof, U3 is one stop towards Simmering. — schedule guests on time. In the room: water ready, phones silent, consider jackets (rustling chairs).

After session: back up multitrack, label release folder with date. If a guest refuses to sign, do not use the material — reschedule rather than a later takedown. Cancellation like other services: free up to 4 days ahead per terms.

Clips, ads and sponsorship

Short clips for Instagram or LinkedIn need the same release as the full episode unless already covered. Label sponsored segments in Austria so listeners recognise advertising. Unprompted product praise can touch advertising law — agree wording before recording.

Disclose paid guests or affiliate links in show notes. Mumbocetra does not audit your marketing compliance — campaigns with budget benefit from external legal review.
